carrot brooch and hair clippie / Karroten-Brosche und Haarklammer

This year we have to wear our winter coats on Easter because it is so cold here. In order to bring some color and humor in, I thought of making a carrot brooch. It is cute and funny at the same time. Conversation guaranteed!

The smaller version can be made a hair clippie for your little one.

Wanna make one too?

Materials needed for the brooch:

16 x 14 cm cotton fabric
wool felt for the leaves
wool felt cording or ribbon- about 15 cm
poly- fill
small brooch needle  2cmlong)
Pattern (for personal use only)

Cut the leaves out of the wool felt. The easiest way is to print or transfer the leaves pattern onto freezer paper, iron it onto your felt and then to cut it out. Set them aside.

Fold your piece of cotton in half with the right sides together and place the pattern for the carrot on fold and sew on the open edge as shown. Cut out, turn to the right side and fill with the poly fill.

Now we have to sew by hand. Fold the edges under and sew a running stitch all around the top of your carrot. Roll the felt leaves together and slip them into the carrot before you pull the stitches tight together. Sew back and forth through the leaves a couple of times.

With the rest of the thread sew the brooch needle on. Tie your cord or ribbon over the top stitches and maybe sew the ribbon or cord a bit on so it does not slip away. Finished. Cute, right?

Materials needed for the hair clippie

8 x 8 cm cotton fabric
wool felt for the leaves
4,5 cm hair clippie (covered with grosgrain ribbon- there are several tutorials on the Internet on how to do this)
wool felt cording or ribbon
poly fill
pattern (is included in the pattern above)
some fabric or hot glue

Make the small carrot in the same way as described above and glue it onto your clippie.

Have fun making those!
